AUTUMN NEWSLETTER 2009

2009 Captain's Message

It has been a tremendous honour to be Captain of our club for 2009. I have thoroughly enjoyed the past eleven months and am humbled by the genuine respect and kindness shown by members and visitors alike to the office of Captain. I am indebted to everyone who assisted the club over the year most notably the club officers, committee members and staff. Although July and August were disappointingly wet again this year the remainder of the year has been very pleasant and conducive to golf. I would like to thank those members who played for, managed and supported our teams during the year. We reached semi final stage in the provincial Towns and Duggan Cup, losing on both occasions to the eventual winners.

My prize was played for over 45 holes and was won in great style by Michael Gaynor. Congrats also to Jonathan Cooney on securing the Golfer of the Year title for 2009. Ciaran Boggan brought distinction to the club this year by winning the Munster Boys title and representing Ireland at Under 18 level.

Course developments and drainage work are currently underway and these projects will enhance the golfing experience for us all in 2010. I would like to pay tribute to our 2009 Lady Captain Nuala who has worked tirelessly on behalf of the club during the past year. I would also like to thank President Aodh for his support, advice and commitment over the past year. I would like to wish Bill and Patricia well for 2010 and look forward to supporting them in the year ahead. Finally I would like to thank you the members for your support during 2009, I would like to wish you and your family well for the remainder of this year and for 2010.

Yours in golf,

Matt Melvin

Captain 2009

It was indeed a great honour for me to be Lady Captain of Co. Meath Golf Club for 2009. I really enjoyed my year and will treasure many happy memories. I should like to take this opportunity to thank our lady officers and committee also to our council and sub committees for their support and commitment throughout my year.

A special word of thanks to Anna Gaffney, Bernadette Kelly and Patricia McDonald on their retirement from the Ladies committee. I will be forever indebted to Phil, Alice and Eileen for the care given to the flower arrangements throughout the past year.

To J.J. and course staff - Robin, Gillian and assistants in the pro shop - Jimmy, Paula and staff in the restaurant - Sean, Marie, Robert and Shiela in the bar and Secretary Janice a big thank you to all for your co-operation and courtesy throughout the year.

To our sponsors who have supported us during the year I am taking this opportunity to thank you all very much. To the players who represented our club in the past year and also the team managers and assistants - thank you. To our ladies committee on winning the millennium cup my heartiest congratulations.

To President Aodh thank you for being an exceptional ambassador for our club throughout your term of office. To Captain Matt it has been my privilege to work alongside you and I should like to thank you for your ongoing support and courtesy throughout the year

House Bar and Catering News

As usual we have been kept busy in our department with the day to day running of the club. This is a summary of events for year 2009.

Last February Scurloughstown Olympiad held their annual dinner dance in our clubhouse with a very large crowd in attendance. Vice Captain Bill was instrumental in their choosing Co Meath Golf club as a venue . House Bar and Catering pulled out all the stops to make sure the event was successful. Hopefully that committee and many more will use our premises and enjoy our facilities in the future.

Travellers Insurance had the lowest tender for insuring our club. This amounted to a substantial saving. Dempsey insurance brokers are the agents. The premium is fixed for 3 years providing our claim ratio to premium is 50% or less.

Trim red cross gave a Defibrillator training course in the clubhouse. 16 people trained and got their certificates. These included bar, kitchen, and course staff. The cost to non staff was 90 euro. Mervin Heffernan arranged purchase of cabinet for defibrillator and installed it on landing.

As usual Captain Matt and Gerry O'Reilly met with Jimmy, our caterer, to discuss business.

A new glass washer was purchased for bar at a nett cost of 800 euro. T K alarms took over maintenance of alarm and cameras.

All house staff have signed new contracts with our club

Insurance company and Meath fire safety inspected our club house and we got a clean bill of health after some small remedial works including an audit of condition of electrical installation.

We have withdrawn from the service of Setanta TV. This more than compensates for the additional cost of Sky TV.

You may have noticed we have new hand sanitizers on the landing and in pro shop. I recommend we all use them for our own safety.

Landing toilets and balcony railings have been painted which has improved the appearance of the clubhouse.

Jack supervised the connection of mains water to clubhouse. Valerie and Patricia looked after cleaners and kept cleaning supplies in stock.

Although golf activity is slowing down we have still lots to do and plan i.e Christmas decorations, Santa.

Finally I congratulate Captains Matt and Nuala and President Aodh on their fantastic year. I wish Bill and Patricia good luck for 2010.

Gerry O'Reilly (House Chairman)

The Golfer of the year Trophy is competed for over the season and the winner will be announced in October. This is kindly sponsored by Mr. Noel Dempsey and is awarded to the player who reduces their handicap the most during the season.

A Safety Statement was drawn up during the year and I would like to thank John Mc Elliogott for the work that he did in putting this on board for us as it safe guards the children as well as the people looking after them.

Amy Gillen and Robbie White were the winners of our Captains prizes, and I would like to thank N. Eyres, M. Melvin, P. Westphal, P. Giles, N. Wayte, G. Machin, who all sponsored prizes for this competition.

Our competitions would not be held without the help of Robin, James and Peter in the Pro Shop . and I would like to thank them . Robin is also the main sponsor of our Junior open and I thank him once again for this.

Thanks also to Jimmy, Catherine and the girls in the kitchen and bar staff for their attention to our needs during the year. To Janice, Brian, and Patricia for posting notices on notice board and web site thank you.

In particular I would like to express my gratitude to Captain Matt for helping me out every Tuesday, the Council and the 2009 Lady Captain Nuala who all were available to help and assist when needed.
